WBC 46th ANNUAL CONVENTION (CHENG DU, CHINA 2008).

In the People´s Republic of China, professional boxing has not been officially recognized as of today, as in China only amateur boxing is accepted and no less of five Chinese boxers have already qualified for the XXIX Olympic Games, that will be celebrated in Beijing, China, from August 8 to August 24, 2008.

The Government of Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan Province won, during the celebration of the WBC’s convention in Croatia, the right to hold the 46th Annual World Convention in Chengdu for the year 2008, to be held right after the end of the Olympic Games.

The Convention will be opened the morning of November the 3rd and it is expected that some of the highest Chinese officials will be at the inauguration, which we are looking to be the basis for the official recognition of professional boxing in such a great country of China with a population of more than 1,300 millions habitants.

In fact, the 46th WBC Annual World Convention in Chengdu, has been scheduled to end on November the 8th with a great boxing show including world title championship fights to be the starting signal for the recognition of professional boxing, which started more than 300 years ago in Great Britain, being Jack Broughton the creator of the first boxing rules in 1743, followed by the modern boxing rules of Queensberry in the year of 1867, according to our dear friend the late Bobby Naidoo’s boxing historical research.

There is a great enthusiasm in the world of the WBC to attend this magnificent convention that is projected to be one of the very best in the 45 years of the WBC.

The year of 2008 is also the year for election of the President and Vice Presidents, which is exclusively done by the delegates representing the 10 continental federations affiliated with the WBC, which are the African Boxing Union, the Asian Boxing Council, the British Boxing Board of Control, the Caribbean Boxing Federation, the Central American Boxing Federation, the CIS and Slovenian Boxing Bureau, the European Boxing Union, the North American Boxing Federation, the Oriental & Pacific Boxing Federation and the South American Boxing Federation.

This site will continue adding information about China and Chengdu, so that the people of the boxing world came to attend will be fully informed of this very appealing and interesting convention.
